Honey from Live Wire Farm

Live Wire Farm Raw Honey is made by our bees harvesting nectar from a mixture of wildflowers and other blossoms in Jacksonville, VT. Gathered from our hives, the honey is extracted from the honey comb, strained and bottled in 12 oz. jars, without any altering or heating.

Natural variations in the color of the honey comes from the variations in nectar sources.  Generally in our area, if the nectar flow later in the year is greater than the earlier nectar flow, the color of the honey will be darker. When the bees decide the honey is ready, they cap over the comb cells with wax. That is how we tell which frames of honey comb to harvest.

Honey is actually bee food and each bee makes about 1/8 of a teaspoon in her lifetime.  Beekeepers encourage the bees to make more honey than they need to over-winter in the hives through careful bee management.

Honey never spoils. If it crystalizes, it can be used as is, or very gently warmed to restore it to liquid form.

We have a small number of hives, limiting our supply of honey.
